Hamline U: We Give Intellectual and Political Diversity the Shaft; Faculty

Communists Halt Hiring of Tom Emmer, Republican Opposed to Same-Sex "Marriage"

By Nicholas Stix

Hamline University, a 156-year-old, private liberal arts university in St. Paul, Minnesota, hired former congressman Tom Emmer to teach in its business school, before it unhired him. His crime? He was a Republican. The administration hired him, but folded like a cheap suit, in the face of the rage of possibly as few as three red faculty members. President Linda Hanson then lied, saying that politics had nothing to with it, and had her chief propaganda officer, JacQui Getty, make up a story to give the lie plausibility.

As the Republican candidate for governor in 2010, Emmer came within 9,000 votes of winning. He opposes same-sex "marriage," the promotion of which the faculty commies say is part of the university's "mission."

One of the leaders of the anti-Emmer crusade was Business School professor Jim Bonilla, "listed on the school's website as a consultant on diversity in higher education and the founding director of Hamline's 'Race, Gender & Beyond' program."

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Former Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer is accusing Hamline University of backing out on an agreement for him to teach at its business school.

The Republican alleges faculty members at Hamline objected to his political views, including his opposition to same-sex marriage. He questions whether Hamline truly recognizes political or religious freedom.

Hamline counters that the discussions to have Emmer teach there never evolved beyond the proposal stage. University spokeswoman JacQui Getty says the two sides never reached a final agreement.

A St. Paul Pioneer Press report [link added by N.S.] says Emmer wants the school to acknowledge that it failed to honor its agreement with him. Getty says the school has no plans to do so.

Emmer conceded the governor's race to Democrat Mark Dayton last year just as a recount was wrapping up.

N.S.: Here's Emmer's take on what happened, from a letter he wrote to President Hanson.
