I am a boomer who battled both of my parents, who served during WWII, over their smoking. I have always suspected that the government got them hooked in order to help them cope with the war. Cigarettes came in every box of K-rations.

As somewhat of a Libertarian who strongly believes in individual freedoms, socialized medicine complicates this. We all end up paying increasing costs for other peoples stupidity. These people can always find the money for their drugs, but the rest of us end up paying to repair the damage they do to their bodies.
